What is Key Lime Pie?
The first recipes for key lime pies originated in the Florida Keys. Key limes are smaller and contain tarter juice. The juice is blended with egg yolks and sweetened condensed milk to create the traditional pie filling. Original recipes did not require the pies to be baked, despite the eggs, as they are believed to have been commonly produced by fisherman at sea who would not have had the means to bake them. Today, they are baked and usually topped with whipped cream… yum!
What does Key Lime Pie taste like?
Key Lime Pie has a sweet lime flavor with a little tart zing added in! The pie filling has a soft, dense texture wrapped in a crunchy graham cracker crust.
