What exactly is a Freddy’s Frost?
Our fresh vanilla frozen custard is the foundation of Freddy’s Frosts. In our core lineup of frosts – the Lemon Cream Frost and the Orange Cream Frost, fruity flavoring and juice are blended with this cool creamy custard. In our recent limited-time only frost, we combined our frozen custard with the flavorful Dr Pepper® (the “oldest major soft drink in America,” according to DrPepper.com). As with many of our other frozen custard treats, each frost is available in multiple sizes and topped with fluffy whipped cream. Lemon Cream: Pairing tangy and creamy, the Lemon Cream Frost features all-natural lemonade combined with vanilla frozen custard. With its cheerful color and scrumptious flavor, this frozen custard creation may be the ideal choice for cooling you off in the heat of summer or bringing a little brightness to your day and your tastebuds whenever you need it!
Orange Cream: A frost that may remind you of one of your favorite popsicles is the Orange Cream Frost. As with the lemon-flavored frost, this vibrant creation offers a blend of sweet and tart that’s delicious on its own or as a complement to the steakburgers and other savory selections at Freddy’s.
Dr Pepper® Frost: With its unique blend of 23 different flavors, a fruity note may be only one of the many tastes that emerge in the Dr Pepper® Frost. Therefore, each time you enjoy this limited-time frost, you may experience a new nuance to this treat!
What is the difference between a frost, a float, a shake and a concrete?
In addition to questions like “what is a frost?”, you may also be wondering about the difference between this frozen custard creation and others, such as a float, shake or concrete. While these treats may share similar ingredients, other ingredients or the preparation of each selection distinguishes one from the others. Below, find key differences between how these four popular frozen custard menu items are made at Freddy’s.
1. What distinguishes a float from a frost?
Both the Dr Pepper® Frost and the MUG® Root Beer Float pair soda and frozen custard. However, in the frost, the soda and fresh frozen custard are blended together, while the custard serves more as a topping in the float.
2. How is a frost different from a shake?
Shakes and frosts similarly blend frozen custard with other ingredients. However, shakes incorporate milk instead of the soda or all-natural lemonade used in the frosts. Additionally, shakes may have a slightly thicker consistency, especially as they include toppings and may mix in other ingredients (unlike the frost), as in the Chocolate Brownie Delight.
3. How does a frost compare to a concrete?
If you are looking for a more drinkable and refreshing selection, then you might be interested in the frost. While both frosts and concretes may include fruity components, concretes tend to be thicker treats with multiple mix-ins that are intended to be eaten with a spoon. For example, the Strawberry Dreamcake concrete includes rich and creamy vanilla frozen custard, as well as strawberry puree, cheesecake pieces and cinnamon streusel.
Are Freddy’s Frosts always available?
When the Lemon Cream Frost and Orange Cream Frost first appeared in the late spring and early summer of 2024, these new frozen custard creations were introduced as a limited-time frozen custard treat alongside the Pretzel Bacon BBQ Chicken Sandwich and the Pretzel Bacon BBQ Steakburger. Based on their popularity and the feedback of our guests, we brought back these frosts in the spring of 2025, as well as many other favorites that were previously limited-time offerings and entirely new menu items.
